Astronomy in the region 1-0.1mm wavelengths

Measurements in five different passbands in the spectral region below 20/cm were made with a liquid helium-cooled radiometer in two flights at approximately 40 km altitude. The equivalent temperatures are given for passbands of 1 to 5.4, 7.8, 7.9, 11.1, and 18.5/cm. The results are consistent with a 2.7 K thermal radiation background. FLEXIBILITY IN AGRICULTURE

This paper considers the determinants of two dimensions of flexibility, the flexibility in adjusting aggregate output over time ("tactical flexibility") as well as the ability to switch quickly between products ("operational flexibility"). Econometric analysis of a sample of 40,000 farms in Upper-Austria for the period 1980 to 1990 suggests that larger full-time farms operated by younger, better educated farm operators are more flexible, ceteris paribus. Active ageing – Enhancing digital literacies in elderly citizens

Being digital and information literate is crucial in nowadays society, although not every citizen has the necessary means and resources to achieve these skills, especially the elderly ones. Therefore it is necessary to develop ways to help them to enhance their digital and information competences. In this paper we will present an ongoing project that was designed and implemented with the goal to provide elderly citizens with the necessary skills of a networked society, contributing for an active ageing. The methods used were based on a set of hands on workshops delivered by a team of voluntary students and teacher, with the help of collaborators from a nursing home. Results of the 1983 NASA/JPL balloon flight solar cell calibration program

The 1983 solar cell calibration balloon flight was successfully completed and met all objectives of the program. Thirty-four modules were carried to an altitude of 36.0 kilometers. The calibrated cells can now be used as reference standards in simulator testing of cells and arrays. Cell calibration data are tabulated as well as the repeatability of standard solar cell BFS-17A (35 flights over a 21-year period)

Universal Power-law Decay in Hamiltonian Systems?

The understanding of the asymptotic decay of correlations and of the distribution of Poincar\'e recurrence times $P(t)$ has been a major challenge in the field of Hamiltonian chaos for more than two decades. In a recent Letter, Chirikov and Shepelyansky claimed the universal decay $P(t) \sim t^{-3}$ for Hamiltonian systems. Their reasoning is based on renormalization arguments and numerical findings for the sticking of chaotic trajectories near a critical golden torus in the standard map. We performed extensive numerics and find clear deviations from the predicted asymptotic exponent of the decay of $P(t)$. We thereby demonstrate that even in the supposedly simple case, when a critical golden torus is present, the fundamental question of asymptotic statistics in Hamiltonian systems remains unsolved.Comment: Phys.
